Karla Sofía Gascón made history as the first trans nominee for “Best Female Actor in a Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy” at the Golden Globe Awards.
The 52-years-old transgender actress, celebrated the occasion with her spouse Marisa Gutiérrez by wearing a double colored Saint Laurent one shoulder gown designed by Anthony Vaccarello and Pomellato jewelry.

Speaking of her dress choice, Sofia said, “I chose these colors tonight, the Buddhist colors, because I have a message for you: The light always wins over darkness,” Gascón said on stage. “You can maybe put us in jail. You can beat us up, but you never can take away our soul, our existence, our identity.”
Gascón have been married to Marisa, whom she met at a Spanish nightclub, when she was 19 years old. In 2011, they became parents to a daughter.
Gascón earned her Golden Globe nomination for starring in the Jacques Audiard’s movie ‘Emilia Pérez’, as a drug dealer, who has a gender-affirming surgery and lives a new life.
At the 2024 Cannes Film Festival, she made history by jointly-winning the “Best Actress” award with other female stars of the film, Zoe Saldaña, Selena Gomez and Adriana Paz.
Karla Sofía Gascón received the Vanguard Award with her film Emilia Pérez‘s team at the 36th Palm Springs International Film Festival.
Karla could make history at the Academy Awards, if she gets nomination for an Oscar in acting.
